Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls is a series of three tiered waterfalls on the slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda's Kapchorwa District, at an altitude of around 1,350 to 2,000 meters. The falls cascade down the Sipi River through a landscape of terraced farms, banana groves, coffee plantations, and highland mist on the edge of the Elgon caldera. The highest fall drops about 100 meters in a single sheet of white water, and all three can be reached by hiking trails in under a day from the village of Sipi. The area is home to the Sabiny (Sebei) people, who have farmed these slopes for generations, and it produces some of Uganda's best Arabica coffee. Sipi offers a genuine escape from the safari circuit, with clean mountain air, excellent walking, and a pace of life that most visitors find completely refreshing.

Getting There

Sipi is about five to six hours from Kampala by road via the Mbale highway, or reachable by air to Soroti and then onward by road. It pairs well with a Kidepo Valley National Park itinerary β€” some travelers combine the two for a complete eastern Uganda circuit β€” or as a standalone mountain escape before or after a western Uganda safari.

🦍 With GorillaWise Collection & Safaris

We include Sipi Falls as a highland cultural and adventure stop on eastern Uganda itineraries, pairing it with Kidepo Valley or as a standalone two-night escape before a western Uganda circuit.
