π¦ Uganda πΊπ¬
Entebbe is much more than Uganda's international gateway. Located on the northern shores of Lake Victoria β the largest lake in Africa β Entebbe is a peaceful, green and scenic lakeside town offering an excellent introduction to Uganda's wildlife, birdlife, islands and natural beauty. With its tropical gardens, quiet lakeshore, nearby wetlands and remarkable conservation projects, Entebbe is an ideal place to begin or end a Ugandan safari. The famous Mabamba Swamp is one of the world's best places to see the prehistoric Shoebill stork. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary β often called Chimpanzee Island β sits 23 kilometres out in Lake Victoria and provides a home for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees. The Entebbe Botanical Gardens and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) complete an exceptional range of wildlife and nature experiences within easy reach of the airport.

Mabamba Swamp on the shores of Lake Victoria is one of the best places in the world to see the Shoebill β a prehistoric-looking bird with an enormous bill, tall stature and extraordinary presence. The best way to explore the wetland is by traditional canoe, moving quietly through narrow channels surrounded by papyrus. Mabamba is also outstanding for a wide variety of other wetland birds.
Located approximately 23 kilometres from Entebbe on an island in Lake Victoria, Ngamba Island provides a protected home for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees that cannot be returned to the wild. Visitors observe the chimpanzees from designated viewing areas while the boat journey across the lake adds its own adventure.
Situated along the shores of Lake Victoria, the Botanical Gardens offer a peaceful walk through tropical vegetation. The gardens provide an excellent environment for birdwatching and occasional monkey encounters, and are ideal for travellers who prefer a slower and more relaxed nature experience.
For birdwatchers: Mabamba Swamp is the essential experience. For wildlife lovers: Ngamba Island and UWEC. For photographers: Mabamba Swamp, Lake Victoria and the Botanical Gardens. For those with one day: combine Mabamba Swamp with a relaxed lakeside experience.

Entebbe can be visited year-round. The Shoebill is present at Mabamba Swamp throughout the year. The drier months provide more comfortable conditions for outdoor activities. The wetter seasons bring excellent birdwatching opportunities and dramatic skies over Lake Victoria. Entebbe is most commonly visited as an arrival or departure experience β one to two days either side of a Uganda safari.
